If a student wishes to appeal the instructor's determination, the student must contact Academic Ombud Services within ten working days to schedule a meeting with the Ombud.

The Ombud will listen to the student's perspective and review the instructor's evidence with the student.  If the student wishes to proceed with an appeal, the Ombud will discuss with the student the information needed from the student and how best to present the student's case to the University Appeals Board.

The Ombud will write a memo to the University Appeals Board summarizing the student's and the instructor's perspectives of the case.

  • Please note: The student has the right, with some restrictions, to class participation and attendance during the consideration of any appeal.

The Chair of the University Appeals Board will schedule a hearing and invite the student to attend.  We recommend the student attend the hearing.  It is informal.

At the hearing, both the student and the instructor will be given an opportunity to explain their perspectives of the case in the presence of the University Appeals Board.  The University Appeals Board will then deliberate and arrive at a decision.

The student will be notified within 24 hours of the University Appeals Board's decision by the Chair of the University Appeals Board, and written notice will be provided within one week.

The decision of the University Appeals Board is final.
