Generally, for a first offense, the minimum, and most common, penalty is a zero on the assignment.  If the action required premeditation, failure in the course may be the penalty imposed. For subsequent offenses, the regulations require the penalty to be harsher than the previous penalty imposed

The following list shows the penalties that can be imposed:

  • zero on the assignment (minimum penalty)
    • additional penalties such as requiring an additional assignment or reducing the student's final grade by a certain number of levels may also be imposed, if appropriate
  • failure in course (grade of E or F in the course)
  • XE in course (a notation on the student's transcript that an academic offense occurred in the course)
    • an XE may be imposed with suspension
  • suspension
  • dismissal
  • expulsion
