Subsequent offenses require a harsher penalty. The following is a list of the penalties that can be imposed:
- zero on the assignment (minimum penalty)
- additional penalties such as requiring an additional assignment or reducing the student's final grade by a certain number of levels may also be imposed, if appropriate
- failure in course (grade of E or F in the course)
- XE in course (a notation on the student's transcript that an academic offense occurred in the course)
- an XE may be imposed with suspension
- suspension
- dismissal
- expulsion
